Who We Are & What We Stand For

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) UGM Student Chapter is a non-profit, student-led organization established in November 2008 under SPE Indonesia and SPE Java Section. Bringing together students from diverse engineering and science disciplines at Universitas Gadjah Mada, we serve as a platform for technical development, professional growth, leadership, and industry engagement. Through collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning, we empower the next generation of energy professionals to create meaningful impact in the evolving energy sector.

SPE UGM SC is composed of students from diverse academic backgrounds across the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada. This multidisciplinary composition creates an environment where students with different expertise, perspectives, and interests can collaborate towards common goals. The diversity of its members reflects the increasingly interconnected nature of the energy industry, where collaboration between disciplines is essential in addressing complex technical and societal challenges.

Our Vision

To transform SPE UGM SC into a dynamic, future-ready energy community that empowers its members academically, professionally, and socially—bridging campus, industry, and society to create meaningful and sustainable impact.

Our Mission

  • Build an inclusive, supportive, and growth-oriented environment that ensures every member receives structured mentorship, soft-skills training, and leadership opportunities

  • Elevate Academic Excellence & Technical Competence with impactful programs: research labs, technical workshops, software mastery, and certification preparation

The Pillars of SPE

Our Core Value

Networking

At SPE UGM SC, we believe that meaningful connections are the foundation of growth. We connect students across disciplines with industry professionals, alumni, academics, and the wider SPE community. Through company visits, industry engagements, collaborations, and professional events, we create opportunities for members to exchange perspectives, build relationships, and become part of a broader energy network.

Experience

We believe that professional growth goes beyond the classroom. SPE UGM SC provides members with opportunities to experience the energy industry through company visits, competitions, technical projects, organizational roles, and direct interaction with industry practitioners. These experiences allow students to understand how knowledge is applied in real-world settings while developing the adaptability, teamwork, and professionalism needed to navigate the industry.

Learning

Learning is at the heart of our journey as students and future energy professionals. SPE UGM SC creates a space where members can continuously develop their technical and professional competencies through workshops, seminars, mentoring, discussions, certifications, and knowledge-sharing sessions. By connecting academic foundations with insights from industry, we encourage our members to stay curious, capable, and ready to face the evolving challenges of the energy sector.

Innovation

The energy industry continues to evolve, and so must the way we think about its challenges. SPE UGM SC encourages members to explore new ideas, technologies, and approaches across engineering, science, and energy. Through competitions, collaborative projects, research-oriented activities, and cross-disciplinary initiatives, we foster a culture of curiosity and innovation, also empowering students to look beyond conventional solutions and contribute to a more adaptive and sustainable energy future.
